One of my favorite places in the whole world is the salon. Every time I go its bustling with activity and everyone is being pampered. From fresh drinks to manicures, it’s a place where you can relax and talk freely - with your hairdresser. And over the years I’ve determined that hairdressers are excellent communicators. They take the time to listen.

Taking a cue from my own amazing hairdresser, I listened too. And what I heard was a typical conversation for this time of year. It had to do with New Year’s resolutions and how few people actually succeed at following them through. For the individual sharing her views on the matter, New Year’s resolutions seemed pointless. Since most people failed, why even try?

It took everything I had to not interject. Perhaps it’s because I’m an eternal optimist or because I simply love helping people set goals they can follow through on, I didn’t like the idea of completely giving up.

Although it’s true that only 8% of individuals who set New Year’s resolutions actually succeed at following them through by the end of the year, I think it’s still worth the effort. It’s just one more opportunity to think about where you can go and what you can do. My advice? Seize the moment. Don’t let the unknown stop you. You never know where you might end up if you simply put one foot in front of the other.

This month, we’re hoping to inspire you to go for your goals, big or small. We’ve got an inspiring interview with Lynda Benson, blogger and recipe guru behind FitnessMomWineCountry, and my interesting twist on rethinking resolutions. You’ll also find a few kitchen items from thePlate Boutique designed to help you eat a little healthier and better reach your healthy living goals.

Are you ready? Here’s to making 2014 the year of happening!

Nutritiously yours,
