entirety; he’s not dismissing these
parts of himself but he’s on the road
to find the answer to the question:
who the hell am I?
The title of the album is taken from
Dr. Murray Stein’s book called “Jung’s
Map of the Soul: An Introduction”,
and the most intimate BTS album to
date. As leader and rapper RM said
at the Grammy Awards’ red carpet
interview back in February, the album
is a payback to ARMYs. It’s a gift,
from them to us.
The album’s lead single Boy With
Luv (ft. Halsey) is a loose sequel
to Skool Luv Affair’s single Boy In
Luv. While Boy In Luv was about
BTS’ outlook on one-sided love in
childhood, Boy With Luv shows their
maturity when it comes to love by
focusing on small things that can
make oneself and others happy.
This change is not only shown
in the lyrics but also in the songs’
Korean titles: 상남자 (Tough Man)
and 작은 것들을 위한 시 (A Poem
for Small Things). BTS performed
the song with Halsey at the 2019
Billboard Music Awards, Saturday
Night Live, and The Late Night Show
with Stephen Colbert.
The album started with the release
of the comeback trailer Persona ,
which sampled the 2014 song Intro:
Skool Luv Affair from the EP of the
same name. Persona is helmed by
RM in which he presents himself in
four different personas: Kim Namjoon,
RM the idol, RM the rapper, and RM
the leader. The crux of the song is
