It was more of an effort to try and differentiate the experience one receives between console games and mobile games, a way to try and slow the decline in the market. A goal that was definitely achieved with the extensive selection of new IP presented. A final thing to note, as I previously stated, would have to be the price points. Being $100 cheaper, while simultaneously being the faster system, the PS4 has quite the obvious edge when it comes to appealing to core gamers. And this is what happens when you make the Kinetic, an expensive piece of tertiary technology, mandatory. That price increase was the straw that broke the camels back for many people. When the consumer is faced with a product that is cheaper, faster, non-restrictive, and doesn't come with a “big brother” aura surrounding it, that’s the product that they’re going to choose. Overall, Sony definitely came out as the winner in terms of public opinion. Hopefully this will get Microsoft to wake up and spark some more lively competition between the two console giants. And of course with competition comes innovation, and innovation is beneficial to the consumer.
