THE POSITION
Arlington ’ s Fire Chief leads the operational and administrative sections of the Fire Department , including 911 Dispatch ( for both Fire and Police ), Fire Prevention , Emergency Management , Special Events , Training , Logistics , and Fleet . This position supervises Assistant Fire Chiefs , Deputy Fire Chiefs , the Communications Administrator and the Assistant to the Fire Chief .
Job Summary
• Plans , directs , and monitors fire suppression / rescue operations / medical operations and special operations including hazmat , dive / swift water , gas well response , ARFF , EOD , and technical rescue teams .
• Maintains relationships with Federal , State and Local partners to ensure community emergency preparedness and resiliency . Leads the community through major disaster events to successful outcomes .
• Manages and maintains key public / private partnerships including the administration of the city ’ s ambulance contract and the public / private agreements with major sport franchises and event promoters .
• Positions the fire department for additional funding opportunities through homeland security grant management ( i . e . UASI , SHSP , EMPG , etc .)
• Represents the City and Arlington Fire Department on boards , commissions , and other stakeholder groups to promulgate city of Arlington issues , concerns , and needs for continual effective and efficient services .
• Promulgates the Fire Code and works with development groups through proactive and solution-oriented efforts that achieve desired community safety outcomes .
• Provides a community centric vision for the Fire Department , prepares thoughtful cost effective programs and budget proposals while overseeing the general administrative functions of the Fire Department .
• Provides governmental leadership as a community safety advocate and ensures Fire Department members comply with all operational safety standards and requirements .
