Essential Job Functions
• Planning and executing the development and maintenance of the department as a key service provider through short- and long-range plans , goals and objectives .
• Directing , overseeing and participating in the development and maintenance of the department ’ s work plan , assign work activities , projects and programs ; monitor workflow ; review and evaluate work products , methods and procedures .
• Managing and participating in the development and administration of the department budget .
• Overseeing the selection , training , motivation and evaluation of personnel .
• Coordinating activities with those of other departments and outside agencies and organizations , prepare and present staff reports and other necessary communications .
• Working with Labor Representatives on various employment issues and to represent the City and Fire Management through various civil service elements such as Meet and Confer , Disciplines cases , Arbitration cases , etc .
• Directing City disaster preparedness and response plans and activities .
• Participating and representing the City in the community and at professional meetings .
