Guest Lectures: Invited members of Faculty participated in the course and also external contributors from Industry came to Princeton to talk. These were recorded so students online could also hear from the speakers. Real-time demonstrations and experiments: The students on campus could participate in real-time experiments and demonstrations (recorded for MOOC students). Clickers/Polls/Quizzes: all these forms of interaction could be part of any session. There may be a poll after a demonstration and then they would go back to a Q&A session. SUCCESSES Some of the questions that the students had were very challenging which required the academic to find out the answer as part of his homework. So the students were really engaged and actively learning about their content at a much deeper level. There was a high level of engagement with the students, where the sessions were discussed and the students participated a great deal. WORLD HISTORY FROM 1300 Academic: Jeff Adelman Traditional lectures were provided for both on campus and MOOC students. The course was highly structured and had guest lectures through a seminar series called ‘Global Dialogues’ where Historians from the University and also external speakers would come along and talk on whatever the topic was for that week. Students could contribute to the discussion forum and ask questions for discussion in the class. MSc Digital Education University of Edinburgh, 2014 27
