The Site The 2,700m 2 square erf originally contained a petrol station which had been unused for a number of years . The compact site ’ s main strength was its location being surrounded on both sides by busy roads and most importantly the high visibility from Grayston Drive . Access to the building is from the Katherine Street onramp onto Grayston Drive .
The project represented a unique challenge to the architects due to the size of the site and the need to make all the required parking fit .
Drone footage was taken of the site to generate a 3D model of the varying heights of the roadways , the nearby bridge and the slope of the site . This exercise proved very beneficial due to the tricky nature of the site and enabled the team to clearly understand the challenges of the urban landscape and how to best overcome them .
The limited footprint necessitated a focus on how to make the most of the height of the building and optimise the elevations . Once the parking was planned it was only then that it could be
