Electrical Services The appointment from the V & A Waterfront was for the Electrical & Mechanical services for the Clock Tower Precinct Retail and minor offices . The site is on reclaimed ground within the Alfred Basin of the V & A Waterfront and bounded by the Fish Quay , Victoria Inner and outer basins , the Blue Cut and the railway line to the Collier Jetty . The brief for the Electrical Building Services included the following :
• Electrical reticulation to shops and offices including metering ;
• External lighting ;
• Mall lighting in retail section ;
• Lighting installation to achieve ± 400 lux in offices & shops ;
• Emergency power ( 100kVA standby unit ) for lighting , passenger lifts , smoke extraction and UPS back-up ;
• Power reticulation to A / C plants and air handling units ;
• Power outlets and interface with sundry services installations ( CCTV , Signage , HVAC , etc );
• Smoke detection and evacuation ;
• Telephone services reticulation ;
• Assist tenants requiring electrical & electronic services internally ;
• Weather station monitors displaying current weather conditions such as temperature , wind speed , direction and humidity etc . The minor offices design was to ensure flexibility for future tenants with power reticulation and outlets in ceiling voids and the use of drop-in ‘ mellow-lights ’ for illumination .
The external lighting design had to be at such a nature as to enhance the Retail building in such a way that the structure had its own ‘ signature ’ and would stand out when viewed from other areas of the V & A Waterfront .
