residential area . This resulted in a combination of red face bricks , off shutter concrete , coloured plaster panels and aluminum cladding together with sheet metal cladding . The interface on foot level with pedestrians is friendly and convenient ; achieved by subtle colour shopfronts and higher than normal shopfronts and covered canopies .
The canopies , either in slatted steel or offshutter concrete , creates the protection layer from the elements whilst the curved shapes ( following building footprints ) enhance the pedestrian flow patterns and relaxed atmosphere .
The Pool of Light structure was always envisaged as a different statement contrasting within the golden thread . Hence , a modern glass and steel articulated structure was designed which connects with the impressive triple volume space of the basement levels .
Special attention is paid to the signage expression being bold , modern and oversized to be in line with the overall design language .
Landscape Architecture From a landscape architecture perspective , it was imperative to respect and integrate the context of the surrounding environment . This was done through the various finishes included in the design . Red Clay brick pavers packed in a basket weave pattern were used along the axis entering the piazza at Loftus Park . This was used as a substitute for the red Kirkness clay brick which was used within the precinct . The bespoke seating planters with the logo of the development made from a terasso inlay within the concrete textured seat , a modern interpretation while using old materials .
