Already mentioned was the issue surrounding the heritage components , but fortunately all the stakeholders involved realised the project to be a positive catalyst in the area with benefits to all .
In order to succeed with this vision , all parties involved ; the client , consultants , local authority , etc . were really challenged to stay focused and encouragement by and from all were needed to be victorious .
Architectural Expression and Material The Architecture portrays a modern , yet sensitive contemporary expression . Due to the different uses being a hotel , gymnasium , retail and offices it was decided that individuality in terms of design expressions will be accommodated within the golden thread of design elements such as retail canopies , materials to be applied , roof scapes , colour palette , floor heights and the alignment of floor prints on the precinct base planning parameters .
This resulted in a series of buildings very different in articulation but part of the same family . It also resulted in a composition of buildings in harmony , not only in terms of look and feel but scale , proportions and positions in relation to each other .
Main consideration to the positioning and orientation , apart from sustainability and sensible outcomes , is the focus on the view to the surrounding areas and visual connection to the central piazza creating a pleasant environment to both user and observer .
The focus on materials was to blend and lend from the iconic Loftus Versveld Stadium as well as other smaller elements from the Clydesdale
