Shopping trends have changed considerably ; “ Shoppertainment ” is the buzzword in retail development circles . Old Mutual Properties , who had successfully refurbished Cavendish Square , in Cape Town , have created a super regional shopping centre in the new Menlyn Park .

The exciting and vibrant malls , with various themed halls , have seen growth in visitors beyond expectation , during the first few months of trading . Cinema patronage has more than doubled .
Entertainment , restaurant facilities , visual , decorative arenas and graphic signage , as well as soaring four and three-level events arenas attract the visitor to stay in the centre for more than the usual in-and-out shopping experience .
Pre Refurbishment The 1980 ’ s Menlyn Park comprised some 60,000m 2 of rentable area , which was made up of approximately 45,000m 2 retail space . The balance was taken up by an existing office block . There were about 3,300 open parking bays available to the clientele visiting the centre . The facilities available consisted of :
• a ground floor retail area , which was approximately 20 % of the floor area and anchored by Hyperama , Edgars and Woolworths .
• a first floor banking retail section , anchored by Stuttafords and 7 cinemas .
• a lower ground floor below a portion of the ground floor and used for deliveries , services , tenant parking and stock rooms for the 2 anchor tenants to the east .
Since completion , further office and retail developments have been added which will strengthen the Menlyn Node as a retail destination
