Theme The length of the mall presented a difficult design challenge but also created opportunities . The designers sought an appropriate theme and resolved to adapt a stylised maritime interior as the Long Beach Mall primarily serves the Noordhoek- Simonstown Peninsula region . A series of subthemes was developed and implemented in demarcated zones along the mall : the malls are 6.5m wide and 8m high , where traditionally this proportion is 3:2 . The higher volumes created a for-shortened perspective , creating the optical illusions of a shorter mall .
Finishes An airy , timeless atmosphere was created through the selection of finishes . An effect of wind -driven beach sand is achieved with the selection of artair porcelain tiles in a module of 400 x 400mm . The palette is sand-tone intersper-
