Tenants are provided with full height shopfronts to enhance the display of merchandise and sliding / folding doors are encouraged to maximise the opening of the shops into the malls . High quality , robust and low maintenance materials are used throughout the interiors with tiled demising piers between shops , stainless steel and safety glass balustrades , mosaics to freestanding columns and stainless steel cladding to all escalators . The toilets are also designed with high usage in mind with fully tiled walls and floors , granite vanities and brickwork cubicles . Wayfinding signage , hugely important in a retail environment , is appropriately provided to guide the shopper .
Tilt-up concrete panels were used externally to clad the building , speeding up construction time and allowing for a higher quality of external appearance . The building elevations are designed to allow for tenant signage in a controlled manner with specifically located panels in appropriate positions . All proposed tenant signage , including that located internally , is approved by the landlord prior to being erected . A community-driven art project was undertaken by Crowie Projects . In consultation with the local councellor , visits were made to a number of local schools and children were engaged about the value of recycling glass . A glass artist encouraged the children to draw pictures of themselves and their families and these were used as the basis for 200 glass panels
that are now fixed to the front elevation of the building . The kilns purchased by Crowie Projects for the glass panels have been donated to the Kwamashu Arts Centre .
Construction The joint venture main contractors were able to create significant employment opportunities for the residents of the surrounding areas , as they were committed to employing people from the local community . This also included the development of skills training and experience gained would lead to further job opportunities .
