Retail content remains the same as the year it was published and represents a snapshot of the professional teams ’ thoughts and ideas on each building at the time .
From a photography and production perspective we have also witnessed some major changes since 2000 . Until the mid 2000 ’ s most professional photographers still shot on film , and we would receive the ‘ trannies ’ which we would have to view on a lightbox and then scan each individual image . If I compare the speed with which we shoot and process images today to how time consuming the process was in the earlier years we have come a long way . You will also hardly ever see an aerial image in the earlier projects . Not many firms were prepared to fund the cost of a helicopter to produce some aerials . Today , the use of drones to capture a bird ’ s eye view of the entire building in context with the surrounding landscape has become the norm .
I would like to thank all the firms who have supported us in this inaugural Retrospective . I am proud to be showcasing their body of work .
Please note that the projects are published in chronological order , based on the year in which they were published in Architect and Builder . In some cases they may have been officially opened in the previous year . Where firms have had a name change over the years , we have where possible adjusted that name to reflect their current company name .
We hope this Retrospective will also serve as a great reference for professionals when they are working on new retail developments in the future . Feel free to download a copy and share it with your colleagues .
