PAN AFRICA SHOPPING CENTRE SHINES AT THE SOUTH AFRICAN COUNCIL OF SHOPPING CENTRES ( SACSC ) AWARDS EVENING
Pan Africa Shopping Centre recently received a coveted award at the regional finals of the South African Council Shopping Centres ’ ( SACSC ) annual Retail Design and Development Awards , announced last month . Situated in the heart of Alexandra , Pan Africa Shopping Centre clinched the glamorous Gold Award in the category of New Neighbourhood and Convenience Centre ( smaller than 20,000m 2 GLA ).
Once in the Holding Ranks in Block A , taxis circulate up the ramped slabs until they are able to cross the second floor bridge to cross back over Second Street to enter the taxi rank that sits over the shopping centre in Block B . Once they have collected their passengers , they exit the building using a ramp along the edge of Block B that drops them into Second Street again . Block B holds the retail component with its shops , mall space and service basement and the taxi rank . A small square faces onto Third Street with a food court facing onto it . The shopping centre is anchored by Pick n Pay and the banks . The mall itself is in direct competition with Sandton City , Rosebank Mall etc . and the details and finishes are typical of this typology .
The street façades of the building are part clad by a translucent polycarb skin , back lit at night , which gives the building a layered depth .
