Another unique art installation at Morningside Shopping Centre , gracing a large expanse of wall above Pick n Pay , was created by Lemon Décor owners , Ricky Frankental and Kevin Frankental . The design was created digitally , then printed onto fabric and displayed within an aluminium frame . This design allows for changing prints , giving the centre the opportunity to feature other works , thus creating an opportunity for subtle changes in mood and ambiance .
This popular digital art features colours to complement Morningside Shopping Centre ’ s muted shades . The vertical colour strips , combined with a raster image of birds in the distance , work well , projecting a design with style , sophistication and soul .
Another notable and refreshing difference from conventional shopping centres is the use
of charcoal bulkheads above each shop front , which house each store ’ s signage in white . This creates a clean and uncluttered look , and the contrast of the white on the dark charcoal appears sophisticated and masculine . Various plants , which are mostly indigenous , have been carefully placed along key areas within the centre to create a synergy between organic and contemporary .
The overall effect is a classy centre , with a few signature interior pieces which offer a cool and revitalising approach to the shopping experience .
“ Morningside Shopping Centre has a distinct look , feel and ambiance which have been achieved by the seamless merging of the interior and exterior design , and the unique retailers . The response to the centre has been positive and the community has taken to the new stylish , yet unpretentious , environment , which fuses modernism and functionality beautifully ”, says Flanagan .
Pick n Pay A 1,950m 2 unique Pick n Pay concept store anchors the Morningside Shopping Centre redevelopment , bringing with it an unprecedented level of service and product range ensuring consumers ’ daily needs are met . “ The site location is excellent and the developers have come up with something innovative and tailored to the market that the centre will serve ,” says Pick n Pay director of property and operations , Izak Joubert .
The one-of-a-kind Pick n Pay store was inspired by the concept of bespoke shopping . “ It will become the local grocer to this market , as it were ,” explains Joubert . “ To give it an edge in this market , the store has the focus of an owner-
