buildings on the Nicol Grove Precinct included an Xtreme Lifestyle and Nissan showroom , the Life Spa , Golfers Club and the Cycle Lab were to complement the holistic décor experience by providing a varied overall shopping experience . Restaurants at Design Quarter were intended to increase the dwell time even more , so the Precinct and Design Quarter would become a destination , a day out , and place to relax , mingle , dwell and of course shop .
Overall Design Philosophy The architects responded to the brief by taking a precinct view . Connections and links to and from the existing facilities ( Golfers , Xtreme Lifestyle , the Spa , Golfers Club , and Cycle Lab ) were key to forming the greater precinct concept . One of the fundamental generators of the concept was there
was a desire to maximise the exposure of Design Quarter to William Nicol as this had exposure to 60,000 cars a day . This was , however , not easy , as the Design Quarter site was set back from the road and had limited frontage to William Nicol Drive . Using these generators , definite axis and view lines formed the concept diagram . This conceptual response was to take the notion of the connected buildings on the precinct and apply this to the Design Quarter massing concept .
Design Quarter was conceptualised as a grouping of building elements that , as a result of their placement and position , would create an interesting and dynamic series of public spaces , some areas covered , as in the main courtyard , or open as in the Piazza . The architects wanted the malls to feel like a galleria , being a covered or partially covered street , culminating in a public
