ELECTRICAL & ELECTRONIC ENGINEERS COMMENT Arcus Gibb provided electrical and electronic engineering services to the shopping centre project , and to many of the shops and anchor tenants .
The electrical installations are supplied from a centre-operated 11kV ring distribution
network with nine transformers and a total connected load of 11MVA . Major stores have dedicated transformers . An extensive LV cable and distribution board installation distributes electricity to all the shops , malls , HVAC plant , lifts and escalators , with the electricity supply to each shop separately metered .
A diesel standby generator plant has been provided for essential and emergency power during power failures and emergencies . This ensures compliance with building and fire regulation requirements , as well as meeting the specific needs of certain tenants for standby power . UPS power is provided to critical electronic systems .
The integration of a number of electronic systems into the complex was coordinated . An extensive fire detection and alarm system has been provided and integrated with HVAC , lifts , doors and miscellaneous other services , to automatically signal the correct systems operations in the event of a fire . The fire alarm system is coupled to a voice evacuation alarm system , which doubles as a public address / background music system under normal circumstances .
A state-of-the-art pedestrian counting system has been implemented to monitor shopper numbers and patterns - a very powerful management tool . A pay-on-foot parking system was provided for the indoor parking .
