accessibility will pull people from the Southern Suburbs and Cape Town .
The Regional Centre is a 45,000m 2 retail centre with the main convenience nodes consisting of Checkers , Woolworths and Pick n Pay , situated at the ends of the overlapping double storey malls all centred on the heart of the plan and the leisure activities , anchored in turn by the eight Ster Kinekor Cinemas . The anchor tenants are supported by the fashion majors Edgars , Foschini and Truworths , a significant homeware and banking section mingles with the leisure and entertainment component centrally positioned adjacent to the cinemas with coffee shops and restaurants . The tenant mix aims to satisfy the shopper on the move and the shopper with time on hand to relax and spend the day enjoying the shopping experience .
Mall Design The mall is designed as a double level closed structure of two overlapping “ L ’ s ” which cumulate in the centrally placed food court . The mall relies on natural light and uncluttered views to direct and inform the visitors in order to avoid the confusion so common with meandering malls , which results in all too common mall fatigue . The mall is premised on a minimum of fuss and efficient shopping experience .
The minimalist approach permeates all the design elements allowing the merchandising , activity and natural light to inform , delight and seduce . Natural light permeates the anchor courts which act as knuckles in the mall from which both the horizontal and vertical circulation originates and ends . The same court roofs are the identity markers of the building from the exterior ,
