Sunningdale Lifestyle Centre is the brainchild of Garden Cities and Pinelands Development Company , developers and contractors of numerous townships on the Cape Peninsula . The development is situated at the southern border of Sunningdale , where Garden Cities are developing 8,000 houses over the next 10 years , and is intended to be a one stop shop for contractors and DIY enthusiasts in this dynamic growth point of Cape Town .
The site is situated , on the corner of Sunningdale Drive and Sandown Road , which will , in future , link through to the N7 and the R27 and will therefore provide an important east-west link for the greater area . The site is long and narrow which impacted substantially on the overall layout . The site works cover a total of 47,000m 2 , with 14,000m 2 for building footprints and the rest for yards , walkways , parking , road works , nursery , mini warehouses , etc .
Tenants include De La Rey ’ s , a major construction material supplier , a nursery , Crammix bricks , Earthcote , Glassmen as well as a hire shop and space for 50 sub contractors through the construction of storage space / minor workshop facilities at one end of the development .
The client required that the complex should not follow the typical ‘ big box ’’ approach in which major height is utilised for major signage and which provides for an aggressive statement in a residential area . Buildings have been planned , which , although of large scale , are sensitive to the residential area . This is achieved by providing substantial setbacks for landscaping and the design of the major roofs
