Phase 2: North Pavilion and Campground Building A subsequent phase of development saw the completion of the North Pavilion redevelopment together with the new Campground Building,
a four-storey commercial building addressing Campground Road.
The Campground Building is occupied by PPS, while the Western Province Cricket Association occupies a small intermediate level housing a reception area, cricket memorabilia, a library and meeting spaces celebrating the heritage of cricket in the province. The building acts as a gateway into the precinct, with visitors entering beneath it through a series of generous architectural arches that frame views into the development and create a memorable arrival sequence from Campground Road. A landscaped, pedestrian-friendly forecourt enhances this approach, providing greenery, seating and clear pathways that guide visitors into the precinct while opening views towards the cricket field and Table Mountain beyond.
The North Pavilion, an iconic element of the stadium, has been carefully redesigned internally to support dual functions. Restaurants and cafés continue to occupy the groundfloor archways that open directly onto the Piazza, activating the public realm. Upper floors provide flexible commercial space while preserving the heritage commentator boxes, which were sensitively fitted with modern furniture to suit office use without altering their historic character.
The media centre was fully refurbished, with all finishes, furniture and technical installations replaced to create a state-of-the-art broadcasting environment suitable for contemporary requirements. An elevated stair link now connects the North Pavilion to The Snakepit Building, providing direct access between the WORKSHOP17 co-working offices in both buildings. The pavilion’ s hybrid design allows the co-working tenant to occupy the upper floors
