ROCHE BOBOIS REINTERPRETS A DESIGN ICON
Roche Bobois has reinterpreted the Ovalia armchair, originally designed by Danish designer Henrik Thor- Larsen in 1968. The sculptural chair, with its distinctive egg-shaped form, reflected the Space Age aesthetic of the late 1960s and was conceived as an immersive, protective cocoon. The 2026 edition retains the spirit of the original while introducing updated comfort and customisation options. The armchair is available in six shell colours and a range of fabrics, with a complementary footrest and cocktail table. A revised backrest inclination, elastic-strapped seat and integrated headrest provide a more enveloping seating experience. The chair also incorporates a magnetic system within the shell to accommodate a smartphone, reinforcing its concept as a private space for enjoying audio or video content. The Ovalia has a fibreglass frame with a glossy or matte lacquer finish and a satin-chrome metal swivel base. The armchair measures 92cm wide x 131cm high x 93cm deep. The range also includes an ottoman and cocktail table, while the model is FSC mixed certified.
BELGOTEX TERRANOVA: FLEXIBLE FLOORING FOR THE MODERN OFFICE
South African flooring manufacturer Belgotex has launched Terranova, a modular carpet tile range designed to support the evolving requirements of contemporary commercial interiors. Combining colour, texture, acoustic performance and recycled materials, the range offers designers a flexible flooring solution for increasingly diverse workplace environments.
The 500mm × 500mm tiles can be combined in different colours and patterns to define areas within an open-plan office, creating visual distinction between collaborative spaces, quiet work areas, meeting rooms and social zones without relying on physical partitions. As layouts change, individual tiles can also be replaced or reconfigured rather than replacing an entire floor.
Terranova draws its palette and textural character from the African landscape, with colours including Goldstone, Earth Tone, Willow Brook, Lichen Mist and Aged Bark. Its multi-high-low-loop construction uses three tones of Solution Dyed Nylon( SDN) yarn within each tile, creating variation in texture and light across the floor surface.
Acoustic performance is another consideration. According to Belgotex, Terranova provides a 40 % improvement in sound absorption and a 30 % improvement in impact sound insulation. Together with the ProBac backing system, this is intended to help reduce reverberation within spaces and limit the transmission of impact noise between floors.
Sustainability has also been incorporated into the specification. The SDN yarn contains 75 % recycled content, while the ProBac backing is manufactured from 75 % recycled polyester. The backing provides an alternative to conventional bitumenbased systems and contributes to the material credentials required for projects targeting green building standards.
With its combination of modularity, colour and texture, acoustic performance and recycled content, Terranova provides architects and interior designers with a flooring system that can respond to both the functional and environmental demands of contemporary workplaces.
