For Twin City, the project forms part of a broader national retail development portfolio that includes regional shopping centres and mixeduse precincts across South Africa. Designed by Design Partnership alongside Leon Jacobs Architects, the project focuses on upgrading the customer experience while preserving the mall’ s functional strengths in circulation and accessibility.
Rather than pursuing a complete reinvention, the design team adopted a strategy of targeted architectural interventions that enhance identity, comfort and social interaction. The design concept central to the redevelopment is the brand concept‘ Rooted in Groblersdal, Growing Together’. Inspired by the area’ s agricultural landscape and strong sense of community, the project introduces a warmer and more tactile architectural language defined by natural textures, greenery and earthy tones.
