A fireplace anchors the space during colder months, introducing warmth and a sense of residential comfort. Soft, organic forms define the banquette seating, while breeze blocks by Klay are used as screening elements across both levels. These introduce additional texture and layering while subtly defining zones without enclosing them, maintaining openness and flow.
Bedrooms – A Restorative Retreat In contrast to the energy of the public areas, the bedrooms are designed as calm, restorative retreats. A palette of
greens and ochres reflects the Western Cape landscape, creating a sense of tranquility and warmth.
Layered lighting allows for flexibility, supporting both relaxation and productivity. Curved forms are introduced to echo the organic language of the Fynbos concept, most notably in a sculptural curved couch that anchors the seating area and accommodates both leisure and work, fostering comfort, flow, and visual harmony.
Bathrooms continue the material narrative, with custom ochre fluted vanities acting as both functional elements and
sculptural features, elevating everyday use through thoughtful design.
Design Philosophy Emerging from a moment of global reflection, the refurbishment embodies themes of resilience, locality, and sensory richness. Every design decision balances emotional resonance with operational efficiency and long-term durability.
The result is a contextually grounded urban hotel that transcends expectations, a place where nature, craftsmanship, and functionality coexist in a cohesive and refined environment.
