Architect and Builder Offices Retrospective | Page 132

Building Style The style of the building is derived from the plan : hugging the roadways , celebrating the intersection with south facing glazed curtain walling corner , rhythms being created by the exposed concrete shear walls and alternating patterns of punched windows and slots . Slight setbacks in the painted façade are enhanced through the use of soft but deeper colour . The north façade is designed to
encapsulate views , with the two ‘ wings ’ stepped to allow for terraces , and the main stair rising up through the atrium clerestory to open out onto a covered veranda and roof garden over 25 % of the roof area . A feature of this façade is the sun screening devices which serve a dual function of providing access to fire escape shafts , and which allow a shimmering play of light and shadow , with leaf shaped cut outs .
