Features and Finishes
Simplicity of design, features and finishes was
part of the brief. This informed the use of off-
shutter, unfinished concrete for roof covering
and book-end design features. The spaces in-
between were dealt with simply in a combi-nation
of plastered and painted walls with strip glazing
bands. The prominent curved façade was executed
in a top-to-bottom double glazed, pressure glazed
façade system. Accents to features like the stair
and lift cores was achieved by contrasting rendered
wall finishes. The tactile finishes of benches and
seating where staff and visitors have contact are
treated in timber and the roof deck is a combination
of Balau and Massaranduba timber.

Aluminium filigree strips used as clip-on
features on the exposed façades, balconies and
stairs act as softening screens and provide sun-
control mitigation on the north-west façade.
Double glazing is utilised for the large curved
north-west façade.
A previously mentioned feature, the four
level spiral staircase, was a triumph as much as
a challenge. To fit into the delivery programme
and access afforded, the cork-screw stair had to
be well planned for sectional transportation and
fitment to lock pieces together, level by level, to
achieve one homogenous, unsupported flowing
stair to link the ground floor with the entertainment
terrace on the roof.
