One of the key design features on 0NE26 0N M is the exposed staircase that opens up to the street . In this instance functionality dictates the design , with the staircase winding up the building , emphasised aesthetically with a pop of yellow in the voids and decorative breezeblocks facing outwards to the street . The breezeblocks also serve an additional purpose of providing additional ventilation for the fire escape . Due to the small footprint and the positioning of most of the apartments away from the street towards the ocean , the service core had to be pushed to the front of the building . The scissor style staircase creates an interesting kink in the building , zigzagging in and out . At night light shines through the decorative detailing on the breezeblocks , adding an additional aesthetic element to the façade .
Striking slanted concrete columns raise the building over the street on the corner , anchoring the building and adding interest as well as allowing for an open public area that engages with the streetscape . The columns rise up from the street through to the second floor , creating an airy open double volume space and a sense of height . The ground floor houses retail and the first floor houses co-working spaces that tenants can utilise . The corner also steps down adding additional height that creates an interesting relationship with the street , providing an open space whilst at the same time incorporating a sense of subtle distance and privacy from the direct hussle and bussle of the street . Large planters enclose the space and follow on from the lushness of the trees that line London Road .
