Sustainable Features Creating accommodation for students and young professionals within the town cuts down on commuter trips from surrounding areas by car and therefore diminishes the detrimental effects of the emissions those car journeys would have generated . It also alleviates added stress on the roads , traffic congestion and parking infrastructure of Stellenbosch .
Photovoltaic panels on the roof provide a source of renewable energy . Building fenestration is designed to take full advantage of the northern orientation and provide natural ventilation . The vertical fin-like structures on the Adam Tas elevation provide shading from the western sun , and the trees that have been planted in front of those windows will further enhance the shading when fully grown . The integration of the central green space and other spaces of recreation such as the braai area and the gym contribute to creating a healthy environment for its residents .
