RENISHAW COASTAL PRECINCT , SCOTTSBURGH
With a total size of 1,300ha , the Renishaw Coastal Precinct ( RCP ) is a property development initiative by Renishaw Property Developments ( RPD ), backed by the JSE-listed Crookes Brothers Limited ( CBL ), and will surely be one of South Africa ’ s biggest and most exciting new developments . What makes it really special is that only 260ha will be developed . The 1,040ha balance will be converted into conservation areas , thereby reintroducing the lush indigenous coastal forest and grassland that once existed in the area .
Located only 40 minutes from Durban , the entire precinct has received approval for the sub-division of land , as well as environmental authorisation to proceed with the proposed mixed-use development . The precinct has been divided into five inter-connected nodes with Nodes 1 and 3 having received approval in terms of the Umdoni Spatial Planning and Land Use Management Act . The development philosophy within the precinct is to allow free movement between the various nodes by not fencing in the conservation areas , and allow for easy traversing by motor vehicles along the arterial routes , with dedicated lanes for bicycles and golf carts .
The Node 3 Interchange will be the business and social hub of the development and will house many firsts for the area . Zoning has been approved for a private school and private hospital , as well as a shopping centre , light commercial zones and office parks . Technologically smart and forward-thinking , the site will have the latest internet connectivity available , as well as an independent water supply . The newly established urban core will additionally give residents in the surrounding vicinity better access to necessities such as food , fuel and healthcare .
The precinct falls under the Umdoni Municipality , which , together with KZN Department of Environmental Affairs and the National Department of Agriculture , have given the go-ahead . Included in their consent are the rights to develop a number of substantial properties . The development will follow the Umdoni Land Use Scheme , the goal of which is to promote the balanced and coordinated expansion of the Umdoni municipal area .
