GIANT LEAP DESIGNS INTERIORS FOR SOM PROPERTY
Giant Leap were appointed by SOM Property to design their new headquarters in Herdford Office Park , Waterfall . SOM Property is a property development and investments company , and were looking to create a space that not only supported staff needs but provided a comfortable , collaborative environment that fostered teamwork and social interaction .
Giant Leap created an industrial look and feel for the workspace by using exterior finishes on the interior , such as exposed brick walls , epoxy concrete floor finish , exposed ceilings , even down to industrial inspired light fittings . The industrial space has a masculine feel , reinforced by the use of timber and steel in furniture and fittings and textured leather upholstery .
The reception counter was designed using reclaimed wood , creating a unique , warm and welcoming entrance . The offices are an open plan functional space where natural light floods the interior as the entire office has a glass façade .
Nature has been bought into the interior using greenery in key areas . The use of biophilic design encourages the connection between employees and nature , as well as promoting staff wellness and productivity .
The client wanted an open plan kitchen area that could be used as an informal meeting space , but also still have an executive lounge and boardroom for more formal meetings . Both of the formal meeting room areas have glass walls creating a transparent open feel to the office .
The artwork used throughout the office was specifically chosen as they were procured from local talented artists . www . giantleap . co . za
X-FURNITURE COMES TO YOU
X-Furniture ’ s mobile showroom changes the experience of how people view and experience office furniture . Normally clients would have to leave their offices to view office furniture and experience the quality . On the rare occasion that a furniture mockup was done on site , the location was often sterile or unlike what the final office environment would look like . X-Furniture ’ s vision was to create a mobile environment where the client can experience what their office could look like - bringing a 35m 2 office space directly to their door . Carpet and finishes can be changed to match the designer ’ s requirements for the new office space . The showroom can be left at the client for an extended period of time so more staff can view and provide feedback on the furniture . One of the main areas taken into consideration is that businesses often have multiple decision makers that will decide on the look and feel of their new office , along
with functionality and quality . The cost of a team of people travelling
and often taking days out of their schedule to travel from showroom to showroom made no sense . There will always be a place for a traditional showroom but X-Furniture ’ s mobile showroom is an extension of their showroom and in the current Covid environment they believe the solution is ideal for clients and designers to view furniture right on their own doorstep . www . xfurniture . co . za
