M y parents were one of the first to receive their Phizer vaccines in Cape Town last week . What a relief to know that they are on their way to being fully innoculated . Being in their 70 ’ s has meant having to adapt from a very active lifestyle which has been hard .
Adaptation it seems has been forced upon every aspect of life over the last year . Coming into contact with many firms across the industry , it has been amazing to see how they have , successfully in the main , adapted their business models to cope with the challenges faced . It ’ s often been painful and there have been some who sadly have closed their doors . Some of these changes were often ones that should have been made prior to 2020 , but weren ’ t initiated until forced to do so . In retrospect many firms will be better off for having made the changes and adapted .
Adaptation is being seen in the change of development focus . Whilst the jury is out on the future of the office and the way we will work , focus has for now shifted to mixed-use , suburban and rural retail and multi-residential developments . There are a number of exciting developments underway that reflect this change in emphasis and will lead the way forward in how we work , live and play .
