Architectural Features The new building connects with the existing research building by way of a large new glass and steel atrium . Dramatic staircases connecting the existing and new building create a sculptural element in the atrium . The atrium acts as an inside / outside space and large trees in planters connect this space with the outside landscape . The new building mimics the horizontal lines of the existing structure with elegant concrete fins shading the large curtain walls that wrap the building .
