The Bellamont is a recently completed luxury residential development by FWJK Developments . It is situated on the sought-after Bellamont Road nestled on the coastal dunes of the ocean-side town Umdloti Beach in Kwa-Zulu Natal . The eastern facing site is on the precipice of a coastal dune forest and enjoys sharply elevated and unencumbered views of the Indian Ocean .
Site Dan Gardner , Managing Director of FWJK Developments KZN , says that the site ’ s sheer topography and limited access presented unique challenges during the execution of the project , which were equally rewarding to overcome .
Due to the severe slope along the site , five retained platforms had to be created , allowing each level to make some contact with the natural groundline . This combined with the dune sand formations required multiple pile foundations to support the building . Construction laydown and working space was at a minimum due to the small site
The response to the brief was to work with the site ’ s contours , thus creating a building that overlooked the tree canopy and maximised ocean views , while responding to its immediate surrounds
