RYAN MATCHETT DESIGN HOUSE
Ryan Matchett Design House (RMDH) is a Cape Town based product design and
manufacture company headed up by Industrial Designer Ryan Matchett. Over the last
decade, Ryan has created décor and lighting items for restaurants, hotels and businesses
both locally and abroad.
He specialises in taking a company’s brand and transfering it into something tangible,
extending the brand into the interior the business operates from.
With a design philosophy of the marriage between the sharp straight lines of
modern design and the flowing curves and textures inherent in nature, RMDH
manufactures products from all materials from moulded glass fibre to rolled steel and
up-cycled materials.
Ryan is passionate about further reducing the already low environmental impact
of his business. He works from a sandbag studio that he designed and built
himself, filtering out the sound pollution created inside, with vertical gardens
as wall cladding and a living roof. In addition, all the sawdust goes into
stables and later onto the compost heap and then into the veggie garden.
The waste chemicals get compacted into wood fibre bricks and later
used as fire lighters. Long term, he aspires to be off the power
grid altogether.
Always up for new creative challenges, Ryan and his
team are able to apply their extensive knowledge and
experience with most materials and their properties to any
area of the creative industry and building process.
