RED ROCKET
INTERIOR DESIGN: GIANT LEAP | PHOTOGRAPHY: CHARLES JOHNSTONE | LOCATION: V & A WATERFRONT
Red Rocket is a leading integrated IPP that develops, designs, constructs, operates, and owns utility-scale, grid-connected renewable energy projects across Africa. Founded in 2012, the company was originally set up as the Middle East and Africa business unit of Building Energy’ s global operations. Red Rocket’ s growth strategy is based on pursuing a balanced portfolio of renewable assets in terms of geography, market maturity as well as currency exposure. Today, the Group has over 200 Rocketeers in South Africa and Uganda.
As a giant leap towards growth, Red Rocket moved into their new home base, the Mothership, at the Cruise Terminal, V & A Waterfront in Cape Town. A 3,000m ² new office workspace designed to support their ever-growing team and vision.
When it came to appointing the design and build team for their new office space, Red Rocket didn’ t want just a design company; they wanted a team that understood their company dynamics.
This is where Giant Leap comes in – to transform the space to the next level, to be a force of nature, to spark innovation, collaboration, and progress towards a sustainable future.
Our design concept was the‘ Galactic Superhighway’ – connecting their workspace, creating opportunities for teamwork, collaboration, and connection. From client experience to employee interaction, the workspace is a diverse combination of engineered materials with natural touches and softer textures with a play on colours and finishes. No expense was spared, and every detail was crafted with care, purpose, and vision to elevate each key touchpoint. Even the building itself, The Cruise Terminal, was taken into consideration, with its rich heritage and surrounding landscape incorporated into the design. The external terrace and balconies form an integral part of the design as an extension to the office, encapsulating the views and the cruise ship experience as they dock for boarding.
