NEW WINELANDS BISTRO
Wilde Vy Bistro is inspired by the meticulous process of wine production. Designed by Interior Design firm DBCO, the concept encapsulates not only the essence of wine but also the art of patient anticipation and the timeless beauty of its birthplace.
Wilde Vy Bistro aims to harmonise with the heritage of Hooggelegen Farm, utilising natural materials and organic elements to create a warm, inviting
atmosphere. By preserving the farm’ s heritage and integrating contemporary elements, the restaurant offers a unique, immersive dining experience.
The main dining area features dark timbers, high ceilings and large glass windows, offering panoramic views of the vineyards and mountains. The design incorporates dark wood paneling and handcrafted local feature tiles to create a warm, inviting atmosphere while celebrating craftsmanship and locality.
The deep hues of the wood add a sense of richness and sophistication, complementing the earthy tones of the space. The handcrafted tiles surrounding the bar, introduce subtle imperfections and unique textures, and act as an accent wall, bringing an artisanal touch that reflects the connection to local talent and materials. Together, these elements harmonise to form a space that is both contemporary and deeply rooted in its environment, emphasising authenticity and elegance. www. db-co. za
DENIC CABINETS SETS A NEW STANDARD FOR BESPOKE INTERIORS
In a market dominated by mass production, Denic Cabinets is proving that tailored design and local craftsmanship still hold a vital place in modern interiors. Founded by entrepreneur Dipuo Phakathi, the Gauteng-based business brings a personal touch to custom cabinetry – blending clean lines, practical design and a bold vision for Africanmade excellence.
The company began in 2016, born from Phakathi’ s frustration during her own home renovation.“ I was disappointed by how little effort suppliers made to understand my needs,” she recalls.“ Everyone offered ready-made options but no interest in personalisation – so I created my own solution.”
Partnering with a local carpenter, now the factory manager, she built a brand rooted in authenticity, function and refined aesthetics. Today, Denic Cabinets is known for its made-to-measure cabinetry for homes, offices and retail spaces, shaped by a philosophy of collaboration and care. Milestones include high-profile client work and becoming the first Black woman-owned brand to exhibit in the Kitchens & Bathrooms category at Decorex Africa.
Earlier this year, Denic Cabinets represented South Africa at INDEX Saudi Arabia – a major step onto the international stage.“ Being part of the SAFI delegation is a real honour,” says Phakathi.“ It shows African design is gaining global traction and there’ s a place for our stories, aesthetics and craftsmanship in the world market.” The South African Furniture Initiative( SAFI) has supported this growth
through export readiness programmes and global showcases.
SAFI CEO Greg Boulle sees Denic Cabinets as a sign of the industry’ s future:“ Dipuo represents a new generation of manufacturers with business acumen, creativity and courage. She’ s showing that South African furniture can lead – both locally and internationally.” www. denic-cabinets. co. za
