THE DIGS , TYGERBERG
The Digs is an innovative student accommodation development that is transforming traditional living spaces into purpose-driven havens . Founded in 2020 by Andre Krige with the subsequent expansion to an adjacent site , The Digs is set to redefine student accommodation . With a keen focus on the unique requirements of Faculty of Medicine and Health science students from Stellenbosch University and a select percentage from UWC , it embodies a novel approach that goes beyond mere lodging . It creates an environment where academic pursuits harmonise with security , connectivity , and communal living .
The new project is for 72 additional single rooms and by January 2024 The Digs will offer 250 beds . Situated a mere 300m from Tygerberg Hospital and campus , The Digs ’ strategic location underscores its dedication to nurturing a vibrant health sciences community . The proximity to academic and medical facilities ensures that residents can seamlessly transition between their studies and their residence .
Security remains paramount at The Digs , boasting a comprehensive security framework including 24 / 7 physical guarding , electric fencing , CCTV surveillance , and an on-site House Manager . This meticulous approach enables students to focus on their studies without compromising safety .
Fostering a sense of community is at the core of The Digs ’ philosophy . Its architecture is designed for collaborative living , featuring fully equipped kitchens
and contemporary lounges on each floor . The facility also offers recreational spaces such as a games area , an on-site gym , and a braai area for social gatherings . Aligned with modern sustainability goals , The Digs leverages solar power to counteract load shedding .

IRENE LINK BUILDING E , IRENE LINK
Building E is the latest addition to the Irene Link Precinct . This multitenanted building ’ s main features are the first floor balconies which are placed inside two tapered boxes clad in large format sintered stone . These balconies allow the tenants to take advantage of the amazing views on offer . The wellproportioned façades of glass and decorative render will float above a recessed ground floor podium which sits lightly on three naturally ventilated parking levels . This follows on from the precinct design principles already evident in the previous four buildings . There are landscaping pockets situated on the façade which bring in greenery in order to enhance the aesthetic appeal of the parking levels . There are two roof terraces which encourage tenant socialisation and allow individuals to connect with nature and overlook the park which will be developed shortly .
Building E will be aiming for a 4-star Green Star rating and will be implementing various sustainable elements . Construction is already under way on this building with expected practical completion early next year .
