CASTLE GATE LIFESTYLE CENTRE ADDITION
Atterbury is developing a 6,000m 2 addition to the existing Castle Gate Lifestyle Centre , adding a Planet Fitness gym and 3,500m 2 of premiumgrade suburban offices to the precinct . Construction of the gym and office building is underway and progressing well , at an investment of R150m . The structure comprises two wings , approximately equal in size , with one to be occupied by Planet Fitness while the other will be offices . Two of the three office floors are already let , with Atterbury securing the tenancies of VDT Attorneys in 1,700m 2 and Central Developments in 450m 2 . Castle Gate Lifestyle Centre is the first phase of the precinct development , having opened as recently as 26 November 2020 . It is fully let and performing exceedingly well . Furthermore , it is expanding its healthcare services for customers with Intercare Medical & Dental suites , which will open in September and be located above Dis-Chem . Continuing the ethos of exceptional design evident at Castle Gate Lifestyle
Centre , the new office and gym
building will echo the understated yet impressive architectural language . Honest , elegant and welcoming , the design also applies green building principles , from energy efficiency and rooftop solar to Castle Gate ’ s centralised water filtration plant . The newest building in Castle Gate is set for completion in February 2022 , when the doors of its offices and Planet Fitness will open .
DRAKENSTEIN SENTRUM , WINELANDS
Situated along the iconic Winelands Corridor which connects Paarl with Franschoek , Drakenstein Sentrum is being constructed on the corner of Wemmershoek and Lustigang Road and will form a very important retail node for the existing surrounding iconic developments like those of Boschenmeer Golf Estate , Val de Vie and future developments . Planned for completion for end of October 2021 it will host a 9,000m 2 boutique retail offering with the likes of Checkers Fresh X and Woolworths Food just to name a few .
Inspired by the Cape Vernacular & Winelands Shed Architecture the building will lead itself to simple finishes of white painted walls and charcoal roofs . The A-frame is used to celebrate and articulate the most important entrance facing the corner of the site and announces itself to the passer-by . Features and portal frame structures are cladded with local wood to symbolise the typical pergola structure and walkways that accompany this style of architecture .
Being placed on a very prominent corner , it was of utmost importance to be positioned on the correct level . The centre is therefore placed in such a way that the passer-by will see the ± 400 parking bays on offer . Another important aspect for the client was to retain as many trees as possible from the existing small-holding . 10 large trees and 5 large palm trees were saved and incorporated into the design . By saving the trees and placing them strategically it has already done a great deal for establishing the building within its surrounding context .
Unique tree-like columns and skylights are strategically introduced to the internal court and mall to further emphasise the references to the surrounding nature that Paarl and the Winelands have to offer .
