Sustainability A formal Green Building rating was not pursued but energy efficient and sustainable products were specified wherever suitable . The centre is prepared for a hybrid power supply solution with a grid tied PV system .
It has to be said that the outstanding green feature of this building is that it redeveloped an existing structure that was in an advanced state of decay . There are a lot of retail opportunities that are unnecessarily built new when the potential exists to redevelop existing properties in a much greener way , as this development illustrates . Unwarranted new build is an easy and very non sustainable approach to development , especially when the result is the decay of existing structures in areas of undoubted potential .
