The roof was intentionally separated from the building as an element on its own ; seeming to barely touch the structure below . Working closely with the structural engineers on the steel elements of the roof , the architects were able to reduce these as much as possible , which gives that idea that the roof is floating above the main façade , creating a very light element . At the same time the roof unifies the long , linear shape of the building . appears suspended in the space also allows access to the upper floors . This floating design defines the ‘ gateway ’ to the building and was achieved through the incorporation of steel rods suspended from the roof which runs through the core of the staircase . Interior As you enter the light and airy foyer you are immediately struck by the dive tank to the right , where visitors can observe training through the viewing porthole on the ground floor .
Various research laboratories are situated directly adjacent to the foyer . On the upper levels you will find more laboratories and offices . The boardroom on the upper floor is clad with a cylindrical timber screen , adding an interesting three dimensional element and echoing the cylindrical form of the dive tank . The steel , timber and glass staircases access the upper levels in the centre of the foyer space , seeming to pierce the multiple volume void .
