The backdrop comprises of calm neutral colours
including off-shutter concrete, facebrick lift lobby
walls, recycled timber slats in reception areas,
plywood ceiling panels and terrazzo exposed
aggregate floor tiles that cover the circulation
routes. With this neutral backdrop it offered an
opportunity to introduce bold colours such as
nature-like greens and striking blues. A pop of
colour was initiated through artwork, furniture

items and wall graphics. Electricity House was
taken literally when it came to artwork within
the building. Graphics which symbolise electrical
elements, substation equipment, electrical circuits
and abstract pylons decorate the open plan office
spaces and boardroom walls.
Electricity House is a testament to the City of
Cape Town’s sustainable building goals, both in
the aesthetic design of the building as well as the
green building elements.
