Belgotex: Optimising Style for
Zenith Optimedia
Who ever could imagine that pinstripe carpet tiles could create a dappled sunlight effect on the floor?
But that’s just what designer Georgea Kindler of Paragon Interiors envisioned when she specified Metro
structured needlepunch tiles from Belgotex Floors for Zenith Optimedia/Newcast.
H
er brief was to create a corporate,
yet playful interior befitting a
trendsetting international media
agency. The challenge was to honour
the creative nature of a world-class ‘New
Media’ company, whilst paying homage
to its African heritage. The concept was
simple: African elders sharing ideas under
a tree.
Georgea opted for a simple palette of
white, black and various shades of grey
with splashes of accent blues to bring in
their corporate identity.
Timber and white furniture in minimalist
designs introduced warmth and texture,
while playful, arty decals on walls and
tables and a stretched canvas ceiling
stimulate interest and curiosity.A bright
blue pod in the heart of the office added
a memorable modern edge, while various
design elements echo the “tree of
opportunities” theme throughout.
Light and dark grey Metro structured
needlepunch carpet tiles were randomly
laid throughout the space to create a
dappled-sunlight-through-the-trees effect.
Metro’s linear pinstripe pattern – which
alternates thicker and thinner geometric
lines - adds a professional, corporate
feel. To achieve the dappled sunlight
effect, and avoid being too formal,
different shades of light and dark grey
tiles were placed in tessellated directions,
interspersed with random bright blue
squares for a fun, fresh flair.
Darker grey tiles were placed under
furniture, with lighter greys in open spaces
for an open, easy flow. Ideal for open
plan offices as they absorb white noise
and create an acoustic buffer for speech
frequencies and typical office sounds such
as scraping chairs and ringing telephones,
carpet tiles also help improve comfort,
productivity and concentration.
