INTERIOR FEATURE JOHNSON & JOHNSON GLOBAL PUBLIC HEALTH INTERIOR DESIGN: PURE DESIGN I | PHOTOGRAPHY: SALLY WELLBELOVED PHOTOGRAPHY n 2015, Pure Design completed the transformation of Johnson & Johnson’s traditional pigeonhole office space in Cape Town into a radically open-plan environment. The renovated space was hailed by the client as a transformational and value-adding environment and it was only natural that when a new division of the global brand needed to establish offices in Cape Town as part of launching their footprint in Africa, they turned to the Pure Design team. J&J Global Public Health (GPH), which aims to mobilise its global public health capabilities and resources behind a unified, multidisciplinary effort to deliver a sustainable, measurable impact against significant public health needs, was to be located in the same building as Johnson & Johnson’s operational office on a dedicated floor. Johnson & Johnson The Brief The brief given to Interior Design firm, Pure Design, by the client was to create a home for Johnson & Johnson Global Public Health’s first African offices. The design was to reflect a sense of place, providing the ideal environment for multidiscplinary teams to do research in. The look and feel had to be different to that of the administrative offices which the designers had completed in 2015 and provide the division with its own distinct identity. Design-wise, the request was for a subtly African flavour, but with a contemporary edge. Concept Lines are kept clean and uncluttered, bringing in textures in the flooring, wall finishes and other finishes. Focus was placed on 101
