EDITORIAL
We celebrate the change from a bi-monthly to quarterly publication with a bumper issue that contains tons of interesting projects and informative content.
Our cover project is the new Amazon Corporate Office at the Riverlands precinct in Cape Town, which is
one of the largest corporate office developments in a number of years and a key element of the new precinct that is emerging along the banks of the Liesbeek River.
Personally being part of the Architect and Builder team for ten years and Editor for eight of those, I am still amazed by the standard of development and design in South Africa. This is evident in the new buildings that we feature in every issue. No matter the challenges brought to bear upon our country and the built environment sector, our developers, professional teams, subbies and suppliers consistently produce world class work that holds up strongly on the international stage. Our tertiary institutions are developing talented young people through rigorous curricula that bode well for the future of the industry. The challenge for the country is how to keep this young talent and ensure career pathways for them that allow them to develop in South Africa and not feel they need to look overseas for their futures.
