Welcome! There is a powerful saying: "You are what you eat". In essence, this saying describes that your body is nourished by what you give it, so you should be mindful of what you give your body. And for physical nourishment, this is a simple and powerful truth. If you want a healthy and strong body, you feed it healthy and energizing foods that support what you need for the body you desire. The same goes for not being mindful of your body's needs, if you only feed your body foods that cause illness, that are excessive in oil and fats, your body will slow and become sickened. This saying can also be understood on a mental level and a higher spiritual level.
You are what you feed your mind, body and soul. What have you been feeding your body? Just as food nourishes your body, thoughts nourish you're mind. What you think, is what you become. What are your thoughts? How do you view yourself? When you see your body do you glory in the magnificence of who you physically are or do you cringe and fill with negative thoughts? When we view ourselves and tell ourselves: "You are ugly, you are stupid, you are fat, you are wrong"- we feed ourselves food which will poison our thoughts and eventually who we are. We believe what we tell ourselves, and little by little we convince ourselves that we are what we tell ourselves. Negative self talk leads to self hatred, depression, anxiety based on not being who we "should" be, and can even lead to suicidal thoughts and actions. Speaking to ourselves is one major way that we feed not only our mind, but also our soul- or ultimately all that we are.
There is great power in words, particularly those we use to describe ourselves and how we talk to ourselves. Negative words, thoughts, and feelings have negative consequences such as bad habits and hazardous relationships. On the flip side, as we positively speak to and of ourselves, we create positive thoughts, feelings and habits. In this latter practice of speaking positively we don't necessarily create a "Positive person" but rather AFFIRM to ourselves who we really are. No one is ugly, inferior, or wrong. These are lies that we tell ourselves and let other tell us. As we speak positively, we see the truth clearly of who we are: beautiful, strong, smart and creative women.
With most affirmations, it is more powerful when repeated, out loud, to ourselves three times. Often many choose to begin their day by stating these affirmations in front of a mirror, so that one is literally talking to oneself. It is repeated three times, or as often as needed, to solidify the words into our mind as a positive practice. It is also repeated to replace negative thoughts throughout the day in order to continue to reaffirm this positive chain of thought. The purpose of the practice is to literally retrain our way of thinking, especially what we think of ourselves. Instead of dwelling on negative thoughts of "I'm ugly, I'm stupid, I'm fat, I'm wrong", we now replace these with "I'm beautiful, I'm smart, I'm strong, I'm perfect". Below is a list of affirmations for August separated into days. If you feel the need, repeat affirmations as necessary. If an affirmation hits you strongly, we advise you to make it part of your monthly or daily routine. You can also create your own affirmations, i.e.: "I am a wonderful, loving mother".
