wasn’t growing them for food!) and gave me so many herbs, I ended up sharing with
friends. And the growth was amazing – a bounty of fresh herbs in under 4 weeks! (with
VERY little sun) It’s a pretty easy system to run – almost hands off (still gotta feed the
fishes).
Another thing I noticed about this guide is that John actually writes to you in plain
english – no fancy terms – so you don’t need a dictionary by your side to read the book.
John also gives you some tips on how to run the system off the grid – good info. for
folks who want to minimize the footprint.
So What’s the BAD Stuff about John’s
“Aquaponics4You”:
As I said earlier, just about every product online I read had SOMETHING wrong with it.
Nothing is perfect and here are the flaws I noticed after reading John Fay’s
“Aquaponics4You” Guide.
– Location: OK, if you live in Canada (like I do) this system will have to be
supplemented with a grow light (full spectrum) and kept indoors (obviously – plants
don’t do so well in the cold eh?). Also bear in mind that if it’s too HOT (like Arizona)
you may have to look into some kind of climate control (like a greenhouse or
screenhouse)
– Cost of materials – although you can get everything from a Lowes or Home Depot –
If you go big – expect to pay around $400 US for materials for a family size aquaponic
garden. (Although you will be saving on the groceries and there are opportunities for
using recycled materials – so it could balance out for you quite fast)
