OK, so the concept of Aquaponics is NOT new, since most of the earth is covered in water, you could say the earth acts like one big aquaponic garden. The way it’s presented to you in the book is it’s “Aquaculture” meets “Hydroponic Farming” (my favorite method). The way it works is the fish give off waste that the plants love and in turn purify the water that the fish live in. So it’s a win-win-win. The fish are healthy, veggies are organic, and I’m eating great! So what can you grow? This is what surprised me – you can virtually grow ANYTHING you want. various types of lettuce,dark leafy greens,tomatoes, cucumbers,herbs,cabbage,silver beets,green onions or even fruit plants like melons,strawberries,squashes,peppers and legumes like peas, sugar snap peas, green beans,oriental stir fry varieties, and on and on. PLUS the bonus of fish! And GOOD Fish too – like Trout,Tilapia,Largemouth and Smallmouth Bass, heck even goldfish (not that I eat goldfish). So I made my first aquaponic garden using the instructions – I wanted a small herb garden for my home – just to try out the system.
