LIFE BEYOND THE SHOW PEN While horses are a huge part of Tirra’ s life, her journey is also about the friendships, connections and community that come with being involved in the AQHA. She believes the people within the industry are one of its greatest strengths and strongly encourages young riders to make the most of the opportunities available to them. Her own advice to youth members is simple but powerful: surround yourself with people who inspire you, challenge you and help you grow.
“ My advice to youth would be to surround yourself with mentors and peers who inspire and challenge you, as their guidance can be invaluable on your journey,” she says.“ Never shy away from seeking knowledge or training opportunities to enhance your skills.”
For anyone considering becoming involved with AQHA, Tirra is an enthusiastic advocate.
“ It will be the best decision you make! I always wish I could have joined AQHA earlier than I had.”
She believes the community is what makes the industry so enjoyable and has found the AQHA team to be incredibly supportive.
“ The staff of the AQHA are always accommodating to your needs. If you are ever unsure about something, they go above and beyond to help you sort out your issue.”
She also encourages riders to make the most of the knowledge available through AQHA Professional Horsemen.
“ They are extremely caring and are full of knowledge. If you are ever unsure about something, whoever you ask will always be willing to share their advice, insight and knowledge with you.”
A FAMILY BEHIND THE RIDER
Although Tirra acknowledges there are far too many people to name individually who have supported her journey, there is no question about who has been at the heart of it all, her family. Her biggest supporters have been her Mum, Dad and sister, who have stood behind her not only throughout her riding journey, but throughout her life.
“ No matter what I have put my mind to, they have always encouraged me to chase it, backed me and been in my corner.”
From travelling to countless shows and helping behind the scenes to supporting her through both the highs and challenges, Tirra says she would not be where she is today without them.
“
SURROUND YOURSELF WITH PEOPLE WHO INSPIRE YOU, CHALLENGE YOU AND HELP YOU GROW
“ They have made countless sacrifices, travelled to every show, helped behind the scenes and supported me through both the good days and the challenging ones. I genuinely wouldn’ t be where I am today without them.”
At 19, Tirra Ewers is still at the beginning of what promises to be an exciting journey. With three horses who have each helped shape her, mentors who continue to challenge and encourage her, and a family firmly in her corner, she is already building the foundations for a successful future. For Tirra, the journey is as important as the destination and with a World Title firmly in her sights, there is no doubt she will continue striving to become the very best rider, competitor and horsewoman she can be.
