Burpengary Western Performance Club Inc.
Camp Quarter Horse was held at Burpengary Equestrian Centre, Burpengary QLD over two days being 16th and 17th September, with a B Show on the 18th.
What a terrific turnout there was once again this year, with 47 kids keen to learn and make new friends. Under the guidance of our clinicians Ken Davison, Rosina Fyfe, Pieta Palmer and Terry McSweeney( lead line kids) it was two days of learning and fun.
Day one covered the basics of Western Pleasure and Horsemanship.
The day was broken up into morning and afternoon sessions. It was up early to have breakfast, and feed the horses before the day got started. Tarsha Jones was the head cook in the canteen. A continental breakfast was supplied for all to enjoy.
8am- Beginning the day was a welcome to the kids from the club. A gift bag of goodies including a beautiful Camp Quarter Horse Cap, AQHA Magazine etc was received by all participants.
9am- We got started with the Western Pleasure Clinic. From the sideline the confidence gained by the kids was quickly evident with tips and tricks from all trainers. With the kids rotating through the morning either training or watching there was plenty to think about in preparation to put it into practice.
12pm- Break for morning tea / lunch. Once again the kids were spoilt for choice with the home made cakes and jellies on offer. Lunch consisted of a choice meat and salad wraps and rolls.
1.30pm- Time to get back on and learn the fundamentals of Horsemanship. Simple manoeuvres were explained, some as simple as how to improve the lope transition with a simple movement.
3.30pm- Afternoon tea, and time to feed and water the horses.
5.30pm- Dinner was the favourite meal of the day. Curreid Chicken and rice with apple pie and custard for sessert.
Day Two covered Trail and Showmanship.
8.30am- Started with simple steps when presenting for the trail event. Ken was amazing with the kids showing them how to approach the gate to make the manouevre through the gate successful.
11am- Morning Tea, more home made goodies. These were very popular with the kids.
5.30pm- BBQ and home made salads were delicious. Nigel did a great job on the BBQ with Tasha excelling herself with the salads.
6pm- Brianna Miller and her team of girls ran the games night for all the kids. Its was a huge hit. Stick Horse races, balloon popping etc.
Sunday- Show day. Time to put everything learnt over the two previous days into practice.
A big thank you to all that contributed to the Showmanship night fund raiser for BCNA( Breast Cancer Network Australia). There was $ 240 raised.
