SWPC Camp Quarter Horse 2016 Written by Leanne Bartlett The Southside Western Performance Club Camp Quarter Horse was held at Bellara Park Indoor Equestrian Centre at Veresdale in Queensland. It started on Friday the 30th of September with a welcome lunch and all applicants receiving their AQHA Bags, Caps and a bag from sponsor Bendigo Bank. After lunch everyone put halters on their horses to do some Showmanship at Halter, then it was time to saddle up for Trail. After a great day of learning it was dinner and bed. Saturday the 1st of October saw beautiful weather, the day started with a smorgasboard hot and cold breakfast, then it was put on your western saddle for Western Pleasure followed by Western Horsemanship and then lunch break. After lunch it was put on the English saddle for Hunter Under Saddle and Hunt Seat Equitation, some trying this for the very first time. It was then time to wash and prepare the horses for the show the next day. Ray and Cherril Sheehan from Cher-Ray Stud supplied and Master Chef Ray cooked an awesome BBQ dinner, followed after dinner by a games night. Despite a great BBQ dinner, the best chocolate cake ever and then icecream cones, they still had the energy to compete in some relay events including such events as egg and relay race. Then it was off to bed to get up early for breakfast then off to prepare your horse and get ready to show. I would like to thank Annette Kerslake for judging the show and the Beginner Youth Classes of 12 or more. With approximately 30 Youth Riders, SWPC would like to thank the instructors Leanne Bartlett, Gabrielle Brown and Kim Thake for donating their time for the kids. It was lovely to have Celine Lasbliez and Justine Morlet with another team of four Youth riders from New Caledonia, Florian Olliver, Eleanore Gaulier, Dawson Morlet and Kewell Kaouma. I would like to thank some amazing friends for loaning me their horses, Jennifer Turner Doherty, Danielle Armstrong, Kim Thake, Daralyn Davies, Stacey Thomas and Gabrielle Brown. I would like to thank Annette Page as the last two years, has taken all the bookings and made sure all the forms were filled in correctly, she was missed this year at the camp due to foals and puppies. I would like to thank Eleanor Gill, without her help and support the clinic would not be the success that it is, sponsors make it all possible. Some of the other helpers involved were Brian Gray, Mark Bartlett, Jessica Page, Helen Cole, Karen Foldvari and Phoebe Wright and all the parents who helped out at the camp. Ray and Cherril Sheehan sponsored & cooked an amazing BBQ on Saturday night. Nearly all the youth competed on Sunday in the “A” class AQHA approved show and did so well. With ribbons to sixth and prize bags full of horse goodies to fourth, they had a ball.
